Deadly sins of Manny's apostles (Team Pacquiao)

Deadly sins of Manny's apostles (Team Pacquiao)

Greedy ass Bob Arum sold us a defective product and consumers may be well within their rights to litigate against the perpetrators.

Bettors for Pacman--those who wagered on Pacquiao--lost a fortune because they were not told the truth. That's the bottom line. Everything else Bob Arum tells the paying public is ... Bull. Shit.

Manny Pacquiao's terrible performance against Floyd Mayweather, Jr had several root causes.

The Pacman could have beaten Mayweather if he had (a) a better gameplan, (b) a more competent/smarter team, (c) hired outside trainers to supplement Freddie Roach and Buboy Fernandez, (d) an honest promoter, (e) kept Floyd's spies out of training camp, (f) followed the Nevada commission's process to allow the use of anti-inflammatory injection before the superfight.

Sin #1: Arrogance

Team Pacquiao's arrogance and delusion prevented an optimal approach to fighting Mayweather. In war, it's a necessity to respect your enemy; not fear him, but respect him nonetheless. Manny's yes-men apostles disrespected Floyd and paid a disastrous price. Their collective actions led to Pac's loss, disappointing 100 million of their fellow countrymen.

When you underestimate a great enemy, it bites you in the ass. When you believe that a snake is harmless, that's when it hurts you.

An adoring Philippine media didn't help either--many of whom worship Team Pacquiao in order to score interviews and free tickets and free buffet at Manny's hotel and free airline tickets and free Pacquiao clothing and free breadcrumbs. Integrity and professionalism in Philippine journalism would have covered all the warning signs that pointed towards an embarrassing gameplan. Not fantastical dreams of early round knockouts from a man who hasn't stopped anyone since 2009.

When nearly 100% of Pinoy pressmen predicted a Pacquiao KO, that's a sad signal of what psychologists refer to as confirmation bias.

Sin #2: Delusion

There was absolutely no need for Mannyto believe that Floyd was an easy fight; that Mayweather was running but could no longer hide; that God would somehow deliver Mayweather on a silver platter and be willingly beaten to death.

Prayers heal souls; they don't destroy an opponent in battle.

The man is/was 47-0. You may hate Mayweather in real life, but give credit where it's due.

Far too many apostles and Pacfans portrayed Floyd as a coward, a chicken, an inept boxer. Are you kidding me? The opponent has been unbeaten in two decades and is considered an all-time great. The apostles's delusions led to a lack of gameplan. On May 2nd, Pacquiao had no Plan B or Plan C to Floyd's adjustments.

Sin #3: Incompetence

There won't be a rematch because Floyd's not stupid. Just as Top Rank shouldn't have been dumb enough to give the crybaby (Juan Manuel Marquez) a fourth fight and constantly risk Manny's health and legacy

Hiring other expert trainers would have really helped. Instead of investing $4 to $5 million on 900 free tickets, hotel rooms, airfare, etc. for the apostles, Manny should have hired experts who have strategized against villain Floyd.

Pacquiao could have hired Shane Mosley's trainer (Naazim Richardson), Marquez's trainer (Nacho Beristain), Oscar De La Hoya, Marcos Maidana's trainer, and others.

These extra boxing brains would have given Pacquiao more tools and alternative methods of overcoming Floyd's shell defense, preference for running around the ring, and dirty use of elbows and clinches. More minds mean more calculations.

Freddie Roach has Parkinson's and also has a bad habit of relying on the same techniques. And Buboy Fernandez was very under-qualified to prepare Pacquiaoagainst an all-time great defensive boxer. Imagine De La Hoya or Nacho Beristain working Manny's corner along with Freddie Roach. They would have given much better advice on adjustments--better than Buboy.

On May 2nd, Manny should have fought as if Floyd ate his dog. Remember when Mr. TBE called Kid Kulafu "Poochiao" and that he'd force Poochiao to make him sushi rolls? Where was the vengeance?

Sin #4: Greed

Finally, greedy ass Bob Arum sold us a defective product and consumers may be well within their rights to litigate against the perpetrators. How would you feel buying a $100 phone that doesn't work?

This stunt from the oldest apostle obliterated our trust because he chose to do the wrong thing for the sake of getting more money from our wallets.

May-Pac was defective because of Manny's injured shoulder. It happened in mid-March. That's plenty of time to re-schedule the bout. Surely there was tremendous pressure to stick with the schedule. But choosing profits over principles is now leading to a backlash.

Top Rank and Team Pac should have done the right thing by re-scheduling. It would have made the promotion honest, and made the fight fair.

Arum could have followed the Nevada commission's medical protocol. That would have given Manny access to his painkillers on May 2nd. Arum probably broke protocol because he didn't want to risk leaking Pacquiao's significant injury to the media. That would have driven down PPV demand and decreased ticket prices. Bettors for Pacman lost a fortune because they were not told the truth.

Mr. Congressman, you must be aware that you're surrounded by yes-men and leeches and other pathetic assholes. It's good to follow leadership practices now, not later. Because it seems you want to be called Mr. President.
