No time for Cha-cha?
Parañaque Rep. Roilo Golez urged the committee to abandon Cha-cha altogether.
"Time is running out even for a Con-Con. Maybe we should start looking at another option. That is to already think of preparing a magna carta for this committee so that we can bequeath it to the next Congress--a message from this commitee to the committee of constitutional amendments of the 15th Congress on what to do and what not to do," Golez said.
"It is already May. In a few days, we are going to adjourn sin die. When we resume, I don't know if we can have the appetite to look at the proposals," he added.
But Ortega disagreed. "That would show that we are giving up. If we decide to call for Con-Con, there is more than enough time. All we have to do is pass a joint reso calling for a Con-Con," he said.
Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casiño supported Golez. "I feel there is no urgency in amending the Constitution. I agree. It's better left for the next Congress to decide," he said.
