ROILO GOLEZ BILL CREATING SPECIAL PROSECUTOR FOR DANGEROUS DRUGS APPROVED BY HOUSE COMMITTEE

The House Committee on Dangerous Drugs approved today Congressman Roilo Golez's House Bill No. 5712 creating the Office of the Special Prosecutor for Dangerous Drugs. It shall be independent of the Department of Justice and shall be the chief prosecution arm of the Government for dangerous drugs, dangerous drugs trade, violations of Republic Act No. 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

It shall cover the prosecution of high level drug traffickers and ranking government officials, including those in the PNP and AFP, accused of violating the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The Golez bill was unanimously approved and hailed by Dangerous Drugs Board Chairman Tito Sotto and by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Director General Dionisio Santiago as very timely and crucial in the fight against the drug menace.

The House Committee on Dangerous Drugs is headed by Congressman Roque Ablan.
