Chiz says latest SWS survey is 'wakeup call'
MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Francis Escudero said Tuesday that the latest survey results of the Social Weather Station (SWS), which showed his ratings going down, is a wakeup call for him and his team to step up their efforts for the rest of the campaign season.
In a text message to reporters, Escudero recognized that the latest survey results “is a wakeup call to step up our campaign and work more than usual.”
The survey was conducted from March 15 to 17, a few days before Heart Evangelista’s parents went out in public condemning Escudero’s supposed ungentlemanly acts during their previous encounters with the senator.
“Surveys can be a benchmark to determine whether what we are doing are okay or we need to step up,” he said in Filipino.
He added that the surveys are mere snapshots of what the public prefer during a period of time, adding that the changes are not unusual.
Sen. Loren Legarda, who maintains her No. 1 rating, seems to be raving but it does not mean she is slowing down in the campaign.
“I am just passionate about serving our people,” said Legarda, who attended graduation rites at the Guimaras State College on Tuesday.
Legarda is widely known for espousing environment, climate change and disaster preparedness issues. She is also an advocate of women's issues and job creation.
The camp of Sen. Alan Cayetano, meanwhile, claimed that he is now statistically tied for the number one spot with Legarda.
Cayetano is thankful, attributing this leap to his campaign platform which focuses on addressing prices of basic commodities, promoting livelihood and job creation or the acronym PTK (Presyo, Trabaho and Kita).
Cayetano vows to pursue further his fight against corruption in order for good governance to translate to a stronger economy.
In the same survey, Escudero shares the third and fourth spots with newcomer San Juan City Rep. JV Ejercito. Escudero used to be at the solo second in previous surveys.
The results of the SWS survey showed Alan Peter Cayetano, now at 2nd with 57% votes; Ejercito and Escudero with identical 48% votes sharing 3rd and 4th places; Nancy Binay, Cynthia Villar and Koko Pimentel with 47% votes sharing 5th, 6th and 7th places; Antonio Trillanes, 44% (8th); Gregorio Honasan, 43% (9th); Bam Aquino, 42% (10th); Grace Poe, 40% (11th), and Sonny Angara, 39% (12th).
Villar said she is grateful and humbled by the “continued vote of confidence of the people.”
She said she is encouraged by the results, adding that she would like to reach out to all sectors of society as the campaign progresses. Mrs. Villar vowed to conduct dialogues with as many people to understand their plights better.
Former Sen. Ramon Magsaysay Jr, who is at a striking distance in the Magic 12, remains optimistic that he will win in May. His ranking climbed to 13th and 14th slot during the March 15 to 17 survey.
