Navy football team to visit White House next Friday
The Navy football team will visit the White House on Friday, April 12, in a ceremony hosted by President Barack Obama. The team will be honored for capturing its eighth Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy in the last 10 years. Time and location has yet to be determined.
Navy won the trophy by toppling the winner the last two years, Air Force, 28-21 in overtime, and then edging Army, 17-13. The Mids finished 8-5, going to their ninth bowl game in the last 10 years.
The Commander in Chief’s trophy was established in 1972 and is awarded to the service academy with the best overall record against the other two. Every year since 1984, except 1993 when there was no outright winner, the President has personally presented the Trophy to members of the victorious team at the White House.
