MANILA, Philippines - He may be coughing and has caught a cold, but President Aquino is not slowing down.
Malacañang was quick to clarify it was nothing more than a cold and the President has, in fact, been “vibrant.”
“There is nothing wrong with the President. He is campaigning. He was very vibrant. In Brunei, we spent quite a long time with the President. He’s in the pink of health,” presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said in a press briefing yesterday.
He was with the President at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Brunei last week.
Lacierda said the President had been actively campaigning and it was expected that he would catch a cold because he would go out in the heat outside and then stay in cold, air-conditioned cars or rooms.
“But we have no indication of any problems. Siguro init-lamig lang (Just hot and cold) but there are no indications of any illness,” he said.

In Quezon, the President apologized for his incessant coughing, and joked that his hoarse voice could qualify for a horror film or Regal shocker instead of the karaoke or the television show Pilipinas Got Talent. Aquino told the crowd that he had caught a cold.
The President said Health Secretary Enrique Ona told him that “even the machine is turned off at times. You need to rest.”
But the Palace said the President would continue with his governance and campaigning to feel the pulse of the people and help boost the chances of administration candidates in the May 13 elections.
