Survey shows HK people dislike Philippine, US governments the most


HONG KONG - A Hong Kong university poll has found Hong Kong people dislike the governments of the Philippines and Japan most among 12 most-recognized countries, the survey's results showed Wednesday.
Of the about 1,000 people surveyed last month by the Public Opinion Program, more than 87 percent have negative feelings about the Filipino government, while nearly 59 percent feel the same about the Japanese government, followed by the U.S. government at 32 percent.
The most-liked governments were Singaporean, Canadian and Australian, over which 59 percent, 50 percent and 46 percent of people choosing positive feelings.
The survey, which also gauged feelings toward the governments of mainland China, Taiwan and Macao, did not explain the cause of the general sentiment.
Negative feelings against Beijing grew 12 percentage points to 37 percent, while those who have positive feelings toward it diminished by 9 points from the same poll conducted six months ago to 20 percent.
The people's negative feeling toward the governments of mainland China, Japan and the Philippines are at their highest since 1997, the survey said.
