China slammed Australian Prime Minister’s remarks to Japan

Last week, during the visit of Japan PM Abe, Australia’s Prime Minister Tony Abbott said, “We admired the skill and the sense of honour that they brought to their task although we disagreed with what they did. Perhaps we grasped, even then, that with a change of heart the fiercest of opponents could be the best of friends.”
Today, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei slammed Abbott’s remarks to Japan, “If the report was true, we believe that no one, as long as he or she is of conscience, would agree with what the Australian leader has said.”
“The Japanese fascist aggressors brought untold sufferings to people of many countries, including Australia during WWII in extremely cruel ways that were utterly devoid of conscience,” the Chinese spokesperson said.
A former Chinese commander warned Australia being an ally of Japan. “If Australia were to bind itself to Japan’s chariot and turn China into an enemy, it will force China to reconsider its diplomatic relationship with the country,” Wang Hongguang said, former deputy commander of the Nanjing military region.
“If Australia does not treat China as a friendly country, there’s no need for China to treat Australia as a friendly country,” the former Chinese commander added.
