India and Vietnam are both known for their fiercely independent foreign policy. It is not too late for the Philippines to be part of this orbit - India-Vietnam-Philippines - all three confronting a common security concern in the face of a territorially aggressive China.

We should always bear in mind that China claims almost 90% of the West Philippine Sea and no amount of goodwill from them, no amount of projects, grants will soften that threat. In fact, the more China gives, the more careful, cautious and alert the Philippines should be, because of China's lust and obsession to grab almost half of our Exclusive Economic Zone.

India-Vietnam defense ties are an important aspect of their strategic partnership. Earlier, India had offered to supply naval vessels to Vietnam as well as the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. India also trains Vietnamese fighter pilots as both countries mainly operate Russian fighter jets."
