The country which has long been a pioneer in solar energy will be home to the fifth largest solar plant in the world.
Israel will Build World's Fifth Largest Solar Power Pla..

Israel is about to turn one of its biggest natural assets into a useful resource. The country which is blessed with abundant sunshine is about to construct the fifth largest solar power station in the world beginning early next year. The plan is to build not one power station but to build three such structures that will curb its dependency on fossil fuels.
The first solar plant will be a $1.1 billion project will be able to generate 121 megawatts of electricity by the time it's finished in 2016. That's enough capacity to power 40,000 homes. Israel’s three solar plants will generate 250 megawatts in all which is about 2.5% of Israel's energy consumption, according to Inhabitat. The project will also help in achieving nation's goal to generate 10% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.
The station will work by setting up heliostat mirrors that will bounce sun rays toward solar power towers. The towers would transform those rays into steam, which would then power turbines to make electricity.
The plants will be constructed by a joint venture team including American company Brightsource and the French firm Alstom. Brightsource already is known for building large solar stations. Its biggest project is the solar plant in California's Mojave desert called Ivanpah.
