On October 20, a relevant Japanese official told Kyoto News that Japanese Prime Minister had given approval for hitting down Chinese unmanned aircraft when it flies into the area above Diaoyu Islands (called Senkakus by Japan).
Chinese Defense Ministry Spokesman Geng Yansheng responded by saying that China would counter attack as what Japan did would be an act of war.
Japanese Defense Ministry published news on October 25 that two Chinese Y-8 AEW&Cs and two Chinese H-6 bombers were found near the major island of Okinawa.
We do not know for what purpose those Chinese aircrafts cruised the area. Did the early warning aircraft patrol the area to support Chinese fighter jets in case of an air battle between China and Japan?
Did the bombers stay there to attack Japanese warships in case of a sea battle?
In an interview published on October 26, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Japan was ready to be more assertive in guarding against what he said might be an attempt by China to use force to attain its diplomatic goals.
