KUALA LUMPUR: Some 100 schools nationwide are expected to be installed with solar panels by next year under phase three of the Green Schools Campaign.
The project, which is a collaboration between the Association of Independent Power Producers (PenjanaBebas) and the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry (Kettha), will result in an increase in the total power capacity of all the participating schools from the current 190kWp to 690kWp, stated a joint statement from PenjanaBebas and Kettha, here today.
The campaign was launched in 2009 with five schools being installed with 5kWp photovoltaic (PV) systems, while phase two was launched last year with 30 schools participating.
As of November last year, all the participating schools from previous phases have collectively generated close to 263,000 kWh of clean renewable energy, avoiding over 204,471 kg of harmful carbon dioxide emission, the statement said.
The additional 100 schools are expected to produce a total of over 472,260 kWh of clean renewable energy annually and avoid 367,160 kg of carbon dioxide emissions each year. - BERNAMA
