Langham Primary School installs solar panels

An eco-friendly school is set to reduce its carbon footprint even further with the installation of 60 solar panels.
Langham Primary School is set to save up to £2,600 a year with the equipment which has been put up in the school’s roof.
Oakham-based renewable energy system supplier, Love Your Earth, completed the installation. Its sister company Navitron designed the energy-saving system.
The funds for the panels, which are expected to generate 12960kwh of energy a year, were raised via a Christmas fair, a village ball, quiz night and a sponsored bike ride by pupils around Rutland Water.
The development is part of the Solar Schools’ project, a programme aimed at encouraging schools across the UK to go green by providing the tools, training and support needed to fundraise the cost of panels.
Headteacher Janet Lord said: “We’re always looking for ways to move forward and to widen the educational opportunities that we offer to our children.
“Because we are in the process of applying for our fourth International Eco Flag, we were looking for new ways to demonstrate to our pupils, staff and the wider community how we could become even more sustainable and further reduce our carbon footprint here at school. It seemed that solar energy fitted the bill perfectly.
“We’ve used the installation as a way of educating our pupils about solar efficiency.”
Mike Rodgers, sales director of Love Your Earth, said: “It was great working with the school to install their new green energy system.”
