BEIJING: The Chinese navy on Friday said the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines aircraft in the South China Sea has been hampered by mismanagement of the 12-nation search operation.
"Due to the inaccuracy of the previously reported identification points, the search operation organized currently is short of the references and targets which should have been provided," the People's Liberation Army said quoting Duan Zhaoxian, the leader of the Chinese naval search force.
Chinese leaders have earlier asked Malaysian authorities for "timely release authoritative and detailed information", suggesting they were not entirely happy with Kuala Lumpur's response.
Duan on Friday said false and exaggerated leads, and the overcrowding of warships and aircraft from various countries have affected the search operation. The PLA said it will continue to extend its search toward the northwest in accordance with the currents of the Gulf of Thailand.
