Ethanol Produces More GHGs
Studies reveal that corn biofuels, mandated for usage by the EPA in 2007, not only have detrimental effects on automobile engines, but also take a huge bite out of consumers' wallets as well. Nearly 40% of the nation's corn last year was harvested for ethanol production, helping drive food prices skyward and raising greenhouse gas emissions. Yes, you read that right. A new government study reveals that corn biofuels contribute more to GHGs than conventional fuel. The Associated Press reports, “A $500,000 study paid for by the federal government and released Sunday in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Climate Change concludes that biofuels made with corn residue release 7 percent more greenhouse gases in the early years compared with conventional gasoline.” You know lawmakers are full of hot air when even the federal government concedes this mandate's uselessness.
