21.15 Some more Apple nostalgia - the company's first ever television commercial from 1977. The rather sinister film was advertising the first Mac.

21.05 We're still awaiting results from Apple, but Microsoft has reported revenues of $23.4bn (£13.7bn), compared to the $23bn forecast by analysts, for the fourth quarter of 2014. It runs a different financial year to Apple.
20.50 According to new figures from eMarketer, Apple's share of smartphone users in the US is growing. They estimate that Apple's share of US smartphone users will rise to 40.5pc in 2014, up from 40pc last year and 36.5pc in 2012.

20.00 There is now around one hour to go until Apple releases its financial results for the third quarter of 2014. Indeed, Microsoft is also releasing its earnings details for the same period this evening. Although Apple boss Tim Cook has previously played down the famous tech rivalry, I can hazard a guess that Satya Nadella - his Microsoft counterpart - will be turning to Clippy tonight for moral support.

15.00 Apple will be announcing its third-quarter financial results at 9pm BST this evening. The company's guidance estimates a fall in revenues to between $36bn and $38bn, and a fall in net profits to $7.4bn.
Historically, Q3 revenues for Apple have been relatively subdued, ahead of the release of new product models in Q4. Consumers tend to wait for newer products – such as the latest iPhone – to be released, so revenue and sales tend to be higher in the first and fourth quarter.
In the last results release, Apple reported quarterly revenues of $45.6bn and quarterly net profit of $10.2bn. The company said it had sold 43.7m iPhones, 16.3m iPads and 4.1m Macs during the period.
While analysts are looking for a rise in iPhone sales, investors will be hoping for announcements of new product innovations, according to The Telegraph's Katherine Rushton, as concerns grow that iPhones and iPads are failing to hold consumers' attention in the long term.
Of particular interest to shareholders is Apple's expansion into music streaming, with the purchase of headphones company Beats. There is also speculation that Apple plans to follow in the footsteps of rival Samsung with the launch of a smartwatch.
