Grace Poe's alleged uncle says family not after money

Grace Poe's alleged uncle says family not after money

The alleged uncle of Senator Grace Poe explained on Friday that his family had never attempted to reach out to the presidential aspirant until recently because they feared it would look like they were after money.

Junie Rodriguez introduced himself as a brother of Poe's supposed mother - Victoria. He said in a phone interview that he and his siblings had never wanted to reach out to the senator, but recent events changed their minds.

"Hindi kami payag na guluhin pa siya kasi nasa mabuting kalagayan na siya. Mahirap lang kami. Nahihiya kami, baka isipin nila naghahabol kami ng pera ni Grace Poe. Kaso ngayon nakita naming kailangan na talaga, kaya lumantad kami," he said in Ilonggo on GMA 7 news program "24 Oras".

The Rodriguez family is from Guimaras, which is near Jaro, Iloilo where Poe was found.

Junie recounted that Victoria ran away from home and went to Iloilo when she got pregnant out of fear of their father. Her child was left in the care of her neighbor named Corazon Javellana. The baby girl was then given to Sayong Militar, who said she found Poe in the holy water font of the Jaro Cathedral.

He then said Victoria's baby was given to Tess Ledesma Valencia. Valencia was the one who helped movie stars Fernando Poe Jr. and Susan Roces adopt a baby they later named Grace.

Poe's supposed uncle said that Victoria had passed away.

Meanwhile, Junie's younger sibling Lorena Rodriguez-De Chavez approached the senator when she was visiting Iloilo a few days ago and offered to have her DNA tested.

Poe said that results will be out in three to four weeks.

If their DNA does match, Poe will then have a basis to ask the Commission on Elections to reverse its December 11 ruling. The ruling disqualified her candidacy on the basis of her nationality. — DVM, GMA News
