Joey Marquez son kickedout as village league head

A son of actor and former Mayor Joey Marquez of Parañaque City (Metro Manila) was booted out as president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in the city last week, citing inefficiency and loss of trust and confidence.
Barangay (village) captains in Parañaque had decided to ease out Barangay Captain Jeremy Marquez from his post.
Marquez was removed after his fellow leaders held a special meeting on December 23 and came out with a resolution declaring his position vacant.
An election for a new president was subsequently held on January 4 during which Barangay Captain Christopher Aguilar of Marcelo Green was unanimously voted to replace Marquez.
The group is under the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas, the umbrella organization of all barangay leaders in the Philippines with 42,000 members, giving it the distinction of having the largest membership among all government associations in the country.
Johnny Co, barangay captain of Santo Niño, said they decided to replace Marquez because of his overbearing attitude and for using his post to further his personal interests instead of working to help promote the interests of their constituents.
“Ang gusto namin sa pangulo ng aming grupo ay iyong kapakanan ng taumbayan ang uunahin at hindi ang pansariling interes ang inaatupag at isa pa ay dapat marunong din siyang tumupad sa kanyang mga pangako at pinasok na kasunduan. [We want a leader who is willing to sacrifice his personal ambitions in favor of the interests of the ordinary people, and also he should know how to honor his commitments and promises],” Co said.
It was learned that at least 12 barangay leaders signed a resolution during the special meeting on December 23, 2015 during which they declared Marquez’ position vacant before scheduling an election for the vacancy on January 4.
Aguilar, who won the elections, subsequently took his oath as the new president before Parañaque Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Jaime Guray to formally seal his leadership of the group.
It was later gathered that Marquez reportedly reneged on his term-sharing agreement with Aguilar for the position of president of their organization.
Aguilar, it was learned, was named as acting president of the group shortly after the barangay elections in October 2013, mainly because he was among the few among their peers who were on their last terms.
Even as he was already an acting president, however, he gave in to Marquez’s request to help him win the presidency by campaigning for him in an election on December 18, 2013.
It was based on a gentleman’s agreement that there will be a term-sharing between them.
Based on their agreement, Marquez would serve for 18 months while Aguilar wouldl serve for the remaining 18 months of their incumbency.
“Wala ng dahilan para manatili si Jeremy sa puwesto. Bilang mga public servants dapat tumutupad tayo sa usapan kasi kung di tayo tutupad sa usapan, paano pa tayo paniniwalaan ng ating mga kababayan [There is no more reason for Jeremy to stay in his position. As public servants, we should honor the agreements we made because if we don’t, then how would our fellowmen trust us]?” Aguilar said.
