It is therefore very important that we do not ask for China's approval for Filipino fishermen to fish in their traditional fishing grounds in the Scarborough Shoal area, because asking permission from China is tantamount to recognizing their ownership of Scarborough Shoal. We should instead ask China to lift their illegal blockade in the area so that Filipino fishermen can freely fish there without obstruction.
