Golez: As we say in the Navy, steady as she goes, but be alert as the Ship of State enters tricky waters:
1. Beware, the tides and currents of diplomacy, where words matter a lot. It's good to be frank but not too frank.
2. Beware, the Dragon that offers friendship and gifts, cause we have something dear and precious that it desires and is so obsessed to devour. The Eagle may have been an imperfect friend but a friend nonetheless proven in many battles.
Filipinos rate Duterte admin 'very good', drug war 'excellent'
MANILA, Philippines — The Duterte administration received a "very good" net satisfaction rating in a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted in September, with respondents giving the government's war on drugs an "excellent" rating.
According to the SWS survey, which was first published on BusinessWorld, 75 percent of 1,200 respondents interviewed nationwide said they were satisfied with the Duterte administration's performance. Only 17 percent were undecided and a mere 8 percent were dissatisfied.
That earned the administration a rating of +66 net satisfaction, which SWS categorizes as "very good."
The survey was focused on 17 performance subjects, with the administration getting a high +78 net score for its campaign against illegal drugs.
Notably, the Duterte administration also scored well — a +63 net score — in "promoting human rights." This, despite President Rodrigo Duterte scoring human rights groups for raising concerns over deaths in the government's campaign against drugs.
The administration also got ratings of "very good" — or between +50 and +69 — in the following areas:
- Helping the poor (+63)
- Promoting the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (+62)
- Fighting crime (+58)
- Eradicating graft and corruption (+57)
- Fighting terrorism (+55)
- Defending the country's territorial rights (+55)
- Distributing land to deserving tillers under land reform (+53)
The government got a rating of "good" — between +30 to +49 — in the following issues:
- Developing science and technology (+49)
- Providing jobs (+46)
- Reconciliation with Muslim rebels (+42)
- Foreign relations (+39)
- Ensuring an efficient transportation system (+39)
- Reconciliation with communist rebels (+39)
- Ensuring that no family will ever be hungry (+37)
- Fighting inflation (+33)
The BusinessWorld report on the SWS survey results quoted Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar as saying the high satisfaction rating are proof that "our people are seeing the efforts of the President and his Cabinet to help achieve the vision for the country."
Duterte, who was elected in the May elections, promised during the campaign period that he would fight drugs, crime and corruption in government, themes that he regularly returns to in his speeches.
