South China Sea Dispute: India Finds Strong Ally In Russia
With the current tensions facing Russia, allies are more important than ever and that is how India is now to Russia. According to new information, India remains Russia’s leading partner when it comes to military-technical cooperation as well as peaceful nuclear technologies.
Russia and India’s Cooperation
Russia and India’s cooperation continues to grow as Moscow recognizes the latter role to military strategies. As if to emphasize just that, Indian warships have also sailed to Russia for a four-day visit.
“Indeed, we have seen a fairly rapid development of Indian-US relations over the past years. There are several fields where the two countries’ interests meet. India is a rising world power with a dynamic economic growth…increasing demand and enormous human resources. Undoubtedly, it is very attractive to many countries,” explained Russia’s Ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin to Sputnik.

“Speaking about a certain drift toward the United States threatening the historically friendly and trustful ties between Russia and India would be an exaggeration, to put it mildly. Russia has been and remains India’s leading partner in key areas such as peaceful nuclear use and military-technical cooperation,” added the official.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also offered the development of a large partnership between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and countries which include Pakistan, Iran and India. Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) members will also be part of the cooperation.
Indian Warships in Russia
On top of these, Indian naval ships INS Sahyadri, INS Shakti, and INS Kirch just sailed to Moscow, according to The Diplomat. The ships are part of the Eastern Fleet. They arrived in Vladivostok on June 27 which consequently will be part of the South China Sea deployment. Russia and India will maintain a strong defense relationship that will render both sides participate in military exercises and changes. Russia previously expressed allegiance to China over the South China Sea dispute but it remains unclear what it really plans to do.
