U.S.: European Missile Defense System To Go Live, Despite Russian Warnings

One section of the United States' European missile defense shield located in Romania will become operational May 12, nearly 10 years after it was first proposed as a way to protect the Continent from Iranian ballistic missiles, Reuters reported May 11. Russia views the shield, a complex system designed to track and shoot down Europe-bound missiles, as an act of aggression in Eastern Europe, an area where tension is building between the United States and Russia.
